Your Bands Performance (For Pete's Sake)
Now that the concert is over I can now look back and evaluate my band's performance. I think that we did extremely well on the night and our performance was extremely good because we made no mistakes and our transitions from one song to another was well thought out along with the order of our songs. I think that our performance was good because I feel like we had a lot of flare in our performance and we got the audience cheering and clapping along as we performed. I think we were a good band in general because we had every member of our band playing the role that best suited them so that we could perform to the best of our ability. The only thing that I would say I would do differently next time is not to think about our performance before we do it. This made my band extremely nervous especially me because this was my first ever big performance. I know now that there was nothing for me to worry about and now I think that I would not be as nervous for my next big performance. I think that if I was to do the performance again, I think that I would like to add even more flair to our performance and I think that it would be good to involve the audience even more in our performance for example getting the audience to clap along with our songs. I think that if I was to do the performance again I think that I would add some more complicated drum fills into my performance to keeping my drumming interesting.
The Concert
I think that the night was a massive success! We managed to almost fill the whole hall, we sold around 160 tickets in total and we managed to make about £400 profit from the night. Everything about the night was well thought out and the transitions from one act to the other was smooth. The stage looked absolutely amazing with its decorations and the visual effects at the beck of the stage thanks to the technician. The interval was said to have been excellent with the refreshments and the raffle also the front of house staff received only praise from the audience and members of staff. The performances were amazing and they all were prepared and ready to perform. All in all everything was well organised and was a success. The setting up for the concert was fairly easy and smooth. The only negative thing that happened was that one of the amps on stage played up for only a brief moment during one of the performances which was extremely unlucky because everything was tested several times before the concert and it was all working just minutes before the performance. If we were to do the whole concert again I think that it would be good if we purchased some more refreshments to sell as we didn't have enough for everyone. Also I think that it would be good if we decorated the hall some more to make the concert feel more atmospheric.
The Prep For The Concert
Looking back on the prep for the concert, it all went well. Everyone did everything they could to set up and more. They went above and beyond to make the prep for the concert efficient. Every group was thoroughly sound checked and the stage was constantly being decorated. The hall was swept and cleaned thoroughly. The refreshments were set up and a float was acquired for the refreshments stand. Absolutely everything was thought of and done. As for me, I was the stage manager so I was the stage manager so I was in charge of getting the stage ready for the concert. I gave everyone roles, for example I gave Caleb the job of sorting out and setting up the amps and the microphones. If I didn't give everyone roles, i feel that the prep for the concert would not have gone as smoothly as it did due to that fact that no one would have known what to do. I also help put up the lights for the stage as well as moving all of the musical equipment into the hall and onto the stage. Without my help, moving the equipment would have taken much longer and It would have caused delays to the rest of our prep which could have eventually delayed the whole concert. I think that decorating the stage went really well especially because it was constantly tweaked throughout the day to make it look amazing. Everyone did everything they could to help so the roles were fairly equal. All in all I have learned that the prep for a concert is crucial in making it a success. If I were to do the prep again I would write down things that need to be done and tick them off as I go instead of guessing what has and hasn't been done. Also I think that if we were to prepare the concert again I think that it would be very good if we did a full run through of the concert before the real performance. This would be a good idea because everyone would then get a much better feel of how the concert will run. I also think that it would be a good idea if we had something to entertain the audience during the interval for anyone that doesn't want to purchase any refreshments.
Band Rehearsal
Reflecting back on to our rehearsal time I think that every lesson was very productive because we got a lot done in a small amount of time I feel like this was mainly achieved due to good communication. We worked extremely well as a group. We knew each others strengths and weaknesses and we all could communicate well together. Above all of this, we were all friends. Our band rehearsals were not last minutes at all. We started to rehearse on our second lesson after getting given our groups and brief. We decided on our songs on the first lesson and we stuck with them so this meant that we could get started straight away. The only negative with our band rehearsals was that we were not very organised and we made it up and we went along. This is the only thing I would change if I was to do this again. I would set clear objectives at the start of every rehearsal for us to achieve by the end of the rehearsal. Also we should communicate with each other and give each other feedback so that we know where we can improve to make the whole performance better.
